Margarete Steiff founded her own company in the Swabian town of Giengen, Brenz. With the first Steiff animal, a small elephant made from felt, which was originally intended as a pincushion, the world’s first soft toy was invented.

New innovations followed, driven in particular by Margaretes nephew Richard Steiff, who joined the company in 1887, and who created, among other things, the world-famous teddy bear.

The founding of the ALLIGATOR valve factory in 1920 can also be traced back to the inventive spirit of Richard Steiff: Just in time at the start of the great bicycle boom - at the end of the First World War - Steiff established an industrial mass production for bicycle valves.

Innovation and tailor-made Problemsolving have always been the driving force for ALLIGATOR. For instance, the "ALLIGARO Pump Light" bicycle valve appeared as early as 1930, which was the predecessor of the later Blitz valve. High seal quality, low inflation resistance and easy handling distinguished this product from all other available bicycle valves.

ALLIGATOR acquires the EHA Valve Factory W. Fritz Ltd. & Co. EHA was founded as the "First Hanau Precision Screw Factory" which developed and produced the first Snap-in valves with a unique rubberization process.

With ALLIGATOR sens.it, the brand is expanded its range with a simple and practical TPMS solution for the Aftermarket: Universal TPMS sensors for all vehicle models, which can be programmed just-in-time as a vehicle-specific spare part.

ALLIGATOR sens.it wins the Innovation Award with its programmable TPMS sensors.

In 2019, parts of the ALLIGATOR Valves Factory Ltd. was sold to WEGMANN automotive. With the sale, the market leader in the field of balancing weights took over the ALLIGATOR brand name as well as the ALLIGATOR sales and distribution in Europe and North America for both tyre valves as well as TPMS sensors and tools.

In 2020, ALLIGATOR will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
